The HR2010 Saw Tooth Ratchet Gear is an essential safety feature of the Pioneer Rack-N-Pinion tarp system. It mounts on the driver side of the H7002C spring-loaded roller shaft, and works in conjunction with the HR4788 pawl, which is affixed to the driver-side arm extension. The ratchet and pawl come into play during the spring tensioning process when installing or adjusting the tarp roller. A winding disk is now the preferred tool for winding up and tensioning the internal spring, and the ratchet and pawl prevents unintended rotational movement. Before this innovation, the installation process was quite precarious, and if you were to accidentally let go of the disk or discontinued L-shaped winding tool, the sudden release of the spring tension could create a dangerous situation with tool being flung at impressive speeds, potentially harming the operator. Thankfully, the ratchet and winding disk have now significantly improved the safety of the spring tensioning process. Make sure yours are in tiptop shape!
