Product Description
Mega Mesh Multicolor PVC Mesh Tarp — 7 ft. x 42 ft. | Heavy-Duty Dump Truck & Trailer Cover
The Mega Mesh Multicolor Heavy-Duty PVC Mesh Tarp (7 ft. x 42 ft.) is engineered specifically for dump trucks and trailer operators who need FMCSA-compliant load securement without sacrificing airflow. Constructed from 20×20 high-density polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-coated mesh — 20 threads per square inch in both the warp and fill directions — this tarp delivers the ideal balance of containment strength, wind drag reduction, and long-term UV resistance that solid vinyl tarps cannot match.
At 46 lbs., the 7 ft. × 42 ft. size is purpose-built to cover standard dump trailer bodies. The multicolor woven pattern — alternating stripes of blue, green, black, and yellow — is not decorative: it is a manufacturing indicator that each color represents a separate PVC-coated strand, confirming consistent thread count and coating uniformity across the full tarp surface.
Why Mesh Tarps Outperform Solid Tarps for Aggregate Loads
Solid vinyl tarps create a sail effect at highway speeds — the tarp billows, strains grommets, and can tear free under sustained wind load. Mesh tarps solve this with controlled porosity: the 20×20 PVC weave allows air to pass through the fabric at a rate that dramatically reduces aerodynamic lift while still containing aggregate, sand, gravel, asphalt millings, and demolition debris that would otherwise become projectile hazards under FMCSA 49 CFR Part 393.100–136 load securement regulations.
The breathable design also prevents moisture and heat buildup under the tarp — critical for hot-mix asphalt loads where trapped steam can cause premature cooling, and for agricultural loads where airflow prevents mold and fermentation during transport.

Mesh Tarp vs. Solid Vinyl Tarp — Which Do You Need?
| Feature | Mega Mesh PVC Tarp | Solid Vinyl Tarp |
|---|---|---|
| Wind Drag Reduction | ✅ Excellent (mesh allows airflow) | ❌ High drag at speed |
| Aggregate Containment | ✅ Contains gravel, sand, debris | ✅ Full containment |
| Waterproof | ✅ PVC-coated (rain resistant) | ✅ Fully waterproof |
| Moisture/Heat Buildup | ✅ None (breathable) | ❌ Traps heat and steam |
| Best For | Aggregate, asphalt, demolition debris | Fine powder, liquids, full weather protection |
| FMCSA Compliant | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
Applications
The 7 ft. × 42 ft. Mega Mesh tarp is the preferred choice for operators running:
- Dump trucks hauling gravel, crushed stone, sand, topsoil, and asphalt millings
- Construction site debris containment during demolition hauls
- Agricultural transport of grain, silage, and bulk crop materials requiring airflow
- Roll-off containers and open-top dumpsters at job sites
Grommet Spacing & Tie-Down Guide
Brass grommets are positioned every 18–24 inches along all four edges, providing tie-down points for standard bungee cords, rubber tarp straps. For DOT-compliant load securement on public roads, use a minimum of one tie-down per 10 feet of tarp length — for a 42 ft. tarp, that means at least 4 tie-downs per side (8 total minimum). The double-stitched reinforced hem distributes tension across the full hem width, preventing grommet pull-through even under repeated high-speed deployment.
Sizing: Is 7 ft. × 42 ft. Right for Your Truck?
The 7 ft. width covers standard dump trailer bodies (inside width 7 ft. to 7 ft. 6 in.) with 0–3 inches of overhang per side — enough to hook bungee cords through the grommets without excessive flapping. The 42 ft. length is designed for dump trailers using a manual tarp roller system: the extra length wraps around the roller bar at one end and drapes over the tailgate at the other, ensuring full coverage front to back. If your truck body is longer than 42 ft., consider the 7 ft. × 44 ft. or 7 ft. × 46 ft. options in the Mega Mesh series.

Holds up great on highway runs — best mesh tarp we have used
Been using these Mega Mesh tarps for two seasons on our tandem-axle dump trucks. The 7x42 fits our 14-foot bodies perfectly with enough overhang to hook bungees on all four sides. Mesh keeps the gravel in but doesn't catch wind like our old solid vinyl tarps did. Grommets are still solid after hundreds of trips.
